A JEWISH CORE.  A NEW CENTER

The New Center for Arts and Culture presents performances, art and ideas that explore universal themes through a Jewish lens.

Our programs reflect the spirit of contemporary Jewish culture, while speaking both to Jewish audiences and to the broader community. We invite everyone to come and experience the insight, passion, humanity and humor that lie at the heart of our programs.

Explore World Arts - Camp Harbor View

The Explore World Arts program was created by the New Center in the summer of 2008 to encourage a greater appreciation for the arts in young people while broadening their exposure to other cultures. Since it premiered at Camp Harbor View, Explore World Arts has reached approximately 600 children from different sections of Boston.

With new grant money from the Connors Family Foundation, the James W. Rollins Charitable Trust, and the Red Sox Foundation, the New Center has expanded the Explore World Arts program to include the Chelsea Boys and Girls Club, the Charlestown Boys and Girls Club, and Camp Kaleidoscope in Netwon.

Peformances for the 2009 camp season include the Arfrican Caribbean group Bamidele Dancers & Drummers, the Latin youth dance troupe Ritmo en Accion, the Chinese Kung Fu school Nam Pai Martial Arts, and the East Indian dance group Boston Bhangra.

"Explore World Arts adds a great deal to our curriculum, enriching the lives of kids who might not otherwise be exposed to cultures outside their own," said Greg Stoddard, Director of Operations, Camp Harbor View. "It is very inspiring to see our young people enjoy themselves with dance, music and artistry in the safe and nurturing setting we provide at the camp."
