Fall 2009: Dr. Ruth WestheimerDate:Thursday October 1, 2009 Venue:Temple Israel |

Judaism got its start when God promised to make the 99-year-old Abraham “exceedingly fertile,” inspiring 613 commandments and about as many sexual positions. Dr. Ruth Westheimer, expert in all things kosher and kinky, takes us on a guided tour through the rumpled bedclothes of Jewish identity: intercourse and intermarriage, Sigmund Freud and Shiksa fever, the Oral Law and . . . well, you get the idea. Ruth Westheimer became a fixture of popular culture in the 1980s with her open and frank discussions about sex on her New York-based radio program, Sexually Speaking. Since then, she has pioneered a renowned career as a psychosexual therapist, hosting numerous television and radio shows and publishing several books, including Heavenly Sex: Sexuality in the Jewish Tradition.
In conversation with Ted Reinstein, reporter and producer for Chronicle. Before joining WCVB, Reinstein was an actor on stages in Boston, New York and Chicago. He is co-author of the play, Yom Kippur in Da Nang, which premiered in Boston in 1992.
