ART, PERFORMANCES & CONVERSATIONS

All New Center programs speak to Jewish audiences and to the broader community. Attracting large and diverse groups of people, our past programs have explored wide-ranging themes and ideas, including: the Exodus story told from multiple cultural perspectives; the blending of Klezmer and swing music; and the influence of a Jewish up-bringing on the lives and careers of acclaimed writers, artists, musicians, actors, political figures and humorists.

We invite everyone to come and experience the insight, passion, humanity, and humor that lie at the heart of our programs.

Relationships are complicated enough here at home. Imagine what they must be like in an Orthodox community in Israel! Join Prism for an interactive screening of three short films about the triumphs and challenges of love. Created by young Israeli filmmakers from the only orthodox film school in Israel, the Ma'aleh School of Television, Film and the Arts in Jerusalem, And Thou Shalt Love follows the story of Ohad, a gay seminary student who falls in love with his study partner.  The Orthodox Way is a comedy of errors about blind dating, and Willingly provides a rare, poignant window into the Jewish divorce ceremony.

We’ll use the films to spark small group discussions.  Between films, you can grab a drink at the Oberon bar, sit next to new friends, and talk about the themes at the heart of each short film.
